The impact resistant, polymer, polarized lenses are an organic monomer (CR-39 AKA Columbia Resin #39) originally developed by PPG for use in flight gauges in B-17 bombers and further developed as an alternative to glass for eyewear use.

As a result, they work to reduce glare and optimize optics.
